It is SPRING ~ clean up your Flower Beds

With Spring here, things will slowly begin to show new growth.  I can see my neighbors Silver Maple tree's producing their buds now.

That is a sign to slowly get my flower beds cleaned up.

My dear husband will take our leaf blower and go around my beds to eliminate all the
loose leaves and debris left from winter.   I then get down and dirty to clean up what the blower did not remove.  I also pick up my River Birch branches that have fallen and keep a nice little pile of them for use with my crafts.  :)

I prune back my perennials flowers at this point as well.   My coneflowers  have supplied to the birds what they could over the winter.  It is time for to get them ready to add some bright color to the flower beds.

Once my bulbs begin to show their stems, I will apply fertilizer to them.

While I am doing this, I will also check my azaela's.   Over the winter, the deer have feasted on them so they have been naturally pruned.     LOL

I would love to hear what you do in your flower beds to get them ready for the bloom season :)

  2. Yes, this time of year is so exciting for we gardeners....it is wonderful to have the snow finally gone and see the daffodils popping up. I will begin with a lot of the same clean up--raking the debris from the beds and saving those fallen sticks! I rearranged some perennials last year so I'm waiting to see how they fill in :)

    1. I find that one of the most anticipated adventures......I get anxious to see what pops up from what I either transplanted or planted. I forget what was planted and where LOL

  3. We live in a very tree-lined neighborhood - so I spent 6 hours yesterday just raking leaves from our front bed. I love it after I am done! Now I am ready to go to the nurseries, buy those new blooms and plant, plant, plant!

  4. Still waiting to see what I have growing around this house. Have a couple of rock lined beds in front of the studio and I am already thinking about emptying those of whatever is inside and making it all herbs - has good sun and with the slider open I may be getting some herby odors which will be real nice. Before the last little snow last week Phil had actually raked the yard so that much is done. My San Marzano tomatoes are already ordered for delivery the end of May...BRING IT ON!

    1. I love herbs. I have a little patch near our living room which I fill with herbs. Parsley, basil, thyme and sage. Oh and my Rosemary, which I keep in a planter and bring it in over the winter. Are you planning on anything special?

    2. Just the usual - chives, basil, italian parsley, sage, oregano, cilantro for starters. I love the idea of rosemary in a planter to bring in (my rosemary plant in Virginia was HUGE - over 5 feet around and 4 feet high and it was outdoors all year. I am so itchy to get outside and plant!!!!

    1. You don't need a green thumb.....anyone can grow something. The easiest are bulbs........plant them and watch them grow.....easy peasy.
