Wednesday's Member Spotlight

Good day! We make you kindly welcomed at Monday's Child Primitives....please take a seat and sit a spell and we'll have a visit....Do you prefer coffee or tea? I just love company! My name is Pebbles and I am the head honcho at Monday's Child Primitives. I am a 2-1/2 year old Cairn Terrier and I generally oversee everything around the shop for my mom and dad, Michelle and Tom Smith. I invite you behind the scenes with me to learn a little bit about our shop....

Well, you see, every shop has a story for how it began and this is ours... When my mom Michelle was in her mid-30's she was close to earning her degree and was all set to embark on her career doing field research as a wildlife biologist. As it turned out, some health issues kind of changed that when she realized it wasn't going to be feasible to hike, climb, or crawl into areas where the animals she wanted to study lived. After a time she began getting back into crafts and began making primitives. Dad is an accomplished cabinet maker and wood worker and taught her about making woodcrafts. My grandma runs circles around a sewing machine and all she taught my mom over the years sank in finally too!

At first mom began selling her creations (and continues to do so) at Morning Glory Mercantile, a cute little shop up Houghton Lake, MI way, which is located near our property. Then when she happily realized she brought joy to people through her work, she decided to open up an Etsy shop in December of 2011. Since that day, we continue to strive to bring beautiful creations to people at affordable prices. We offer one-of-a-kind and limited quantity seasonal primitives and woodcrafts. We have also recently expanded our primitive supply section and continue to add beautiful homespun fabrics, rusty items, and pip berries. The bottom line is that we love our customers and feel so blessed by their patronage.

What kind of things do we enjoy doing you might ask....well in addition to woodcrafting and sewing, mom loves to dabble in all kinds of things. She loves to knit and crochet, do cross stitch and stitcheries, and has dabbled with needle punching. Some day she wants to learn how to use the table loom that belonged to her great-grandma too. We also love to cook, bake, and garden. I am a big help in these areas as a taste tester and a hole digger! We love history and mom enjoys reading too. I'm not too keen when she ignores me with her nose in a book so I usually bark at her to get her attention. Our biggest love, though, is spending time camping on our wooded 10 acres up north.

We live just south of Detroit where mom and dad were born and raised. All of our families still live right close and we spend a lot of time with them. I've got a lot of cousins!

Thank you so kindly for stopping by to visit! It was a pleasure to meet you and I hope that you enjoyed learning a bit about us and our shop. As a token of my appreciation, I would like to offer you a discount in our shop....use coupon code TAKE15 for 15% off any purchase.

We love being part of the FAAP team and want to say thank you for allowing us to do this post...
